US launches green contractor scheme

The Mechanical Service Contractors of America (MSCA) association introduced a GreenStar designation at its meeting in Chicago last week.

This exclusive certification is only available to MSCA STAR contractors, who demonstrate "environmental responsibility by meeting specific criteria", the association announced.

MSCA STAR companies that attain GreenStar certification will be recognised as the leaders in the green movement within the HVAC industry, a statement said. "These companies will have the proven skills and expertise necessary to deliver energy efficient and cost effective indoor environmental solutions to meet customer needs and to ensure tenant satisfaction."

When announcing GreenStar, MSCA Board of Managers Chairman Russ Borst said that the scheme should help to promote contractors as experts in sustainable solutions.

GreenStar is recognised by the United States Green Building Council (USGBC) as the first programme of its kind in the construction industry.
