Funding boost for biomass projects
Schools, hospitals, and other community organisations as well as some private sector clients can apply for funding from a £4 million Government fund to help pay for biomass energy systems.
The Department of Energy and Climate Change (DECC) says it will allocate grants of up to £500,000 meeting up to 40 per cent of the difference in cost between a conventional fossil fuel-fired boiler and a biomass alternative through this 'Bio-energy Capital Grants' scheme.
Any applicant based in England can apply for this funding and DECC is particularly keen to see an increase in demand for biomass combined heat and power (CHP) systems.
"We expect bio-energy to supply a third of our renewable energy by 2020 and these grants will help support that," claimed Energy and Climate Change Minister Lord Hunt.
DECC defines biomass as "material from any living or recently-expired organisms"!
