SEC delivers giant PV project
Southern Electric Contracting (SEC) has completed the first large-scale example of a
Photovoltaic (PV) solar panel project in the City of London. Solar PV is emerging as one of the key renewable technologies suited to the urban environment.
The UK construction sector still has a relatively limited experience of building-integrated solar PV (BIPV).
The Bishops Square project serves as a key example of best practice in the plant screen-cladding field. Power generated from the PV modules will be used in the office. Features of the system are:
- 446 Sharp 185W monocrystalline module
- Modules on frame fitted on tilted steel support structure above plant deck
- 82.5kWP
- 580m2 PV
- Saves over 32 tonnes of CO2 emissions
The monocrystalline modules are particularly suited to applications where large roof areas are available and where both a high power output (kWp) and a high value of energy yield (kWh per kWp installed) is desired. The technology works well in the UK climate and can be easily fitted to metal frames as an effective low cost rooftop mounting solution.
SEC is part of the Scottish and Southern Energy Group.
